TEACHER INSTRUCTIONS

 

1.  Be sure to take care of the insurance certification, and have it sent to Eva Baroni, 2530 Abemarle Court, Richland, WA. 99352.

2.  There is not a limit to the number of seventh and eighth graders that you can send to the fair.  We do ask that you have a local fair or some type of evaluation to screen the projects.  Sixth grade is limited to twenty students per school. There is not a team category.  If your students are working as a group in your respective schools and then entering the regional fair as an individual entry, the other members of the team CANNOT SHOW UP AND TALK TO THE JUDGES.

3.  Explain to your students that a reservation has been made for them.  Fees for any "no shows" will not be refunded.

4.  Arrange your spreadsheet (or website format) by grade.  Send a copy of your spreadsheet (student name, grade and amount paid) and keep a copy to present at the registration booth at Columbia Center.  Please include school purchase orders, checks or cash.  

5.  Teachers will be responsible for confirming registration information.

6.  Please have your students wear the tags, with entry numbers and first names only, while competing at the fair.  

7.  All vertebrate animal, human, DNA, tissue, pathogenic agent or controlled substance certification forms must have been approved by the Scientific Review Committee or the Institutional Review Board (IRB)before the experimentation began.  These forms cannot be approved if sent at the time of registration.

8.  Every entrant must have completed a Research Plan (1A and 1B),Checklist for Adult Sponsor/Safety Assessment Form Approval form (pp. 29-41).  These must be submitted with registrations. Complete the designated supervisor form  for hazardous materials (3).Remember all bacteria projects in middle and high school must be reviewed by the SRC.  There are new pathogenic rules.

9.  At the fair check your students' projects to be sure that   chemicals, molds, fungi, bacteria, water, etc. have been   removed.  See the rules booklet for details concerning the safety guidelines.

10. The entry cards will already be on the tables.  Each        teacher will receive a list of project numbers and a floor plan.

11. Columbia Center requires that all exhibits be on the tables by 9:00 A.M  Please arrive early.  Registration will be open at 8:00 A.M.   

12. All projects must be removed between 6:00 and 8:30 P.M. on Saturday otherwise they will be destroyed unless you have  made arrangements with the Director.


13. All registrations and certifications need to be sent to the Director on or before March 3.  In addition you will need to complete the electronic registration that is on the included web site.  Please mail early or deliver the registrations and research plans, and entry fees to Sunnyside High School, Sunnyside, WA.  The director will have to match the electronic registration with the actual hard copy before the official entry into the fair can occur.
